Winterfest in Chetek is another great community event on the Chetek Chain of Lakes every winter. Lot’s of fun activities for all ages and interests.
The event, hosted by the Chetek Chamber of Commerce, will take place from 8 AM to 4 PM and all Winter Fest activities will be held in front of the beach. This year’s Winter Fest activities ($5 admission gets you into all!) will include the following:
NSSR Radar Run
Directed by National Straightline Snowmobile Racing, a radar run is a timed event where snowmobiles will race a 1,000 foot shaved-ice track. NSSR provides all of the necessities for the run, including the track, timing equipment, and more. Registration will begin at 8 AM, with racing held from 10 AM to 4 PM.
If you’re not into racing competitively, you can take part in the Fun Run on a separate 1000′ track.
Brave the elements for a cause! Proceeds will benefit Barron County Pink Ribbon Advocacy and Bikini Run top money raisers will be crowned King or Queen of Winter Fest! To participate in the 500′ packed track run, you must have boots, gloves, tether and helmet.
Free games and prizes will be available for children’s activities like ice bowling, snow painting, coin hunt and mini golf. There will also be a sledding hill and ice skating rink.
Winter Fest is about more than just snowmobile racing! There will be great food to enjoy, like the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 AM to 11 AM at the Chetek Pool Hall. Prices are $6 for adults, $3 for children 12 and under and FREE for ages 5 and under.
The cook-off is new to Winter Fest this year, so bring your best soup! Participants must make a minimum of 6 quarts and all ingredients must be cut small enough for a 4oz. portion cup. Tasting is FREE this year and serving will begin at 3 PM. Vote for your favorite soup to be crowned People’s Choice and see who the judges award Best of the Fest.
We hope to see you there!

The majority of homeowners believe spring and summer are the only times to list a property in order to come out with a successful sale. However, this is just not the case— Wisconsin homebuyers no longer hibernate during the winter months and neither should you! Sure, there is snow on the ground, but that doesn’t stop motivated buyers from searching for their Chetek WI dream home even in frigid temperatures.
If you’ve been asking yourself when you should list your Chetek home or have had thoughts about holding out for spring, consider the following reasons you might like to list right now:
Buyers are looking 24/7
Homebuyers in the past typically waited until spring to start looking for properties as that is when the bulk of them would hit the real estate market. Now, buyers are constantly looking at homes online, browsing properties through apps on their phones, having listings emailed to them, regardless of the time of year.
If these Wisconsin buyers find the right property, they will buy well before the beginning of spring. Listing now could open up your home to this motivated audience and gain more interest than if you wait for the busy season to arrive.
Buyers reevaluate at the end of the year
Just as you probably have done, homebuyers in Chetek tend to take stock of their finances, think over tax benefits, learn about work bonuses, and generally, reevaluate their living situation at the end of the year. As a result, February is a turning point and time where they begin reaching out to real estate agents to start their home search.
These newly-motivated buyers will look at your home if it’s for sale early in the new year as they are eager to make a change. This is especially true for those current renters who were notified of a price hike in their lease for the upcoming year!
You have little competition
Naturally, spring is an ideal time for curb appeal with fresh flowers, green grass and perfectly staged outdoor spaces. But that doesn’t mean it’s the only time for success! It is not uncommon for dozens of homes to pop up for sale in the spring, in a similar price range and perhaps even in your same neighborhood. There is less competition when selling your home in February or shortly after, which means great things for Chetek sellers!
When spring arrives, buyers will begin to spread out as they will have more to choose from in the Chetek area. Listing your Chetek WI home early in the new year can allow you to capture the buyers that are now entering the market, planning ahead for the warmer months and those buyers that may have been on the house hunt for months (or the entire previous year) and are simply ready to find “the one.”
While the age-old idea of waiting until spring to sell your Northwestern Wisconsin home is common among homeowners, Six Lakes Realty can help you rethink your strategy! Contact us today for more information about the local real estate market and preparing your home to sell!

In a previous blog post, we shared three common mishaps that can occur when moving to a new home in Chetek WI, from not having the proper strategy to packing at the last minute. But there is one more step you’ll want to cross off your list prior to settling into your new residence in the City of Lakes— notifying the proper parties off your change of address!
By notifying the following parties of your move, you’ll avoid any hassles that tend to pop up with your mail and various accounts:
As soon as your move is official, you will want to notify your employer of your change of address. They will need to send tax documents and insurance information at the end of the year and these are items you won’t want getting lost in the mail!
This should be one of the first parties you inform of your new Chetek WI address! If you’re currently renting, you will likely need to notify your landlord of your move at least thirty days in advance. They will need your move-out date in writing as well as your new address to forward any packages, paperwork and if applicable, your security deposit after you have packed everything up.
Changing your address with the post office is a quick and easy process that will help you avoid any inconveniences surrounding your mail. There may be a small fee involved for making this amendment with the USPS, but simply filling out their online form or in person in a matter of minutes will have you well on your way to an easy move!
The last thing you want on the day of your move to a new Chetek home is for the electricity to be shut off. Arrange for your utilities at your previous address to be disconnected on moving day and transferred into your name at the new address by the same date.
Utility companies include electricity, gas, water, internet and cable, as well as any other city services you may need.
If you’re moving from out of state to Northwestern Wisconsin, the typical time frame to update your registration, license and insurance information ranges from 10 to 30 days. It is always wise to visit the DMV as soon as possible to fill out the necessary paperwork to change your address.
Financial and government agencies
Regardless if you are relocating from another state, numerous agencies will need to be informed of your move including the electoral register, IRS, credit card companies, your personal bank, and the local Social Security Administration. It is also important to make sure your health, life and homeowner’s insurance policies are all updated with your new Chetek address.
Six Lakes Realty will help make your move to a new home as smooth as possible this year! Give us a call today for a list of available properties in the area or with any questions you have about about the homebuying process!
